Job Description


This is a recruitment for two positions, theTPT Maintenance Aide II and TPT Maintenance Aide I - Field Attendant. perform field preps, restroom cleaning, general landscaping maintenance, and basic maintenance of the athletic fields at Playfields Park. Playfields Maintenance Aides performa variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair ofPlayfieldsPark, playgrounds, landscaped areas, and public facilities and receive technical supervision from the Parks Maintenance Worker II.

TPT Maintenance Aide I Field Attendant $14.00/per hour. Temporary Part Time. No benefits.

TPT Maintenance Aide II $14.00-$15.76/per hour. Temporary Part Time. No benefits

Examples of Duties

Essential functions for both positions may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Maintain plantings and grounds, recreation and play areas, and irrigation systems by manual labor and/or with the assistance of small power tools, such as hedge clippers, weed eaters and trimmers.
  • Perform general grounds cleaning, including picking up rubbish and paper.
  • Plant, water, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize lawns, shrubs, trees, and flower beds. Spade and otherwise cultivate ground around plants and shrubs, including mixing and applying fertilizers.
  • Rake leaves, clean walks, fields, courts, and other facilities; load trimmings on trucks. Maintain and prepare athletic fields.
  • Drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment as required; clean and maintain park maintenance equipment.
  • Assist in moving and installing park and recreation equipment such as bleachers, backstops, and playground equipment.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Additional Distinguishing Characteristics
TPT Maintenance Aide I/II
  • Assist in preparation, maintenance and restoration of grounds as directed, including any and all activities or tasks fundamental to sports field care.
  • Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, sods, aerates, and irrigates turf using commercial grade equipment.
  • Performs general maintenance as necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition.
  • Properly maintains infields on all athletic fields within Playfields Park grounds.
  • Drags, rakes, conditions, and replenishes materials as needed to maintain infields.
  • Prepares fields for games by grooming field, painting base path foul lines and marking batters boxes.
  • Builds and maintains all bases, mounds, warning tracks and other field necessities.
TPT Maintenance Aide I/II - Field Attendant
  • Prepares athletic fields for games by grooming field, painting base path foul lines and marking batters boxes.
  • Drag, line and prep infields between games as directed.
  • Drags, rakes, conditions, and replenishes materials as needed to maintain infields.
  • Operate powered equipment such as utility vehicle and infield groomer
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, dirt tamps and paint stripers
  • Ensure proper use of equipment and adhere to safety standards and precautions.
  • Maintain, clean and repair tools, equipment and structures.
  • Gather and remove trash and litter.
  • Ensure restroom and park cleanliness.
  • Provide support in other athletic complex activities and special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Typical shift includes working nights and weekends
Physical/Sensory Requirements:Intermittently sit, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist when performing installation of equipment; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation; lift or carry weight of 75 pounds or less. Work both indoors and out with exposure to weather, traffic, dust, pollen. Must be able to exercise appropriate caution when working in or near parks, greenbelts and pedestrian or traffic areas.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in park maintenance work. Principles and practices of work safety. Basic construction and repair methods.

Ability to: Perform heavy manual labor. On a continuous basis, know and understand operations and observe safety rules, identify and locate equipment, remember equipment location. Learn to operate a variety of small power tools. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience and Training
Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

License and Certificate
Possession of appropriate California Driver's license.
