THIS IS A SEASONAL POSITION Summer Program Counselor [Activity Leader -Athletics] Salary: $16.00 Purpose of Classification: The purpose of this job is to oversee summer camp youth and enhance their development through Athletic enrichment activities. For seven weeks, we work with youth ages 5 - 18 to promote social, cultural and historical awareness an activity-based curriculum. Our Community Recreation Services Bureau, in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, is seeking amazing Recreation Program Leaders to assist with the WRAP After School Program. The WRAP Expanded Learning Program is a structured after-school program operated in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD). This program is operated on LBUSD campuses and offers a balanced mixture of academic enrichment, homework assistance, and physically and emotionally healthy activities that are fundamental components of youth development. WRAP is offered free of charge to all participants. (Applicants for this position must have completed 48 or more units at an accredited college or university OR must be able to pass a LBUSD-administered math and literacy exam.) The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine is a nationally recognized and award-winning organization with 1,100 full-time/part time staff and a budget of $74 million. The Department oversees facilities and programs that reflect the needs and interests of a culturally diverse community, including: 170 parks with more than 3,200 acres devoted to open space and recreation, 27 community centers, 3 public pools, 6 miles of beaches, and 3 marinas. The Department provides free and fee-based recreational programs and leisure opportunities, both self-directed and organized, for people of all ages and cultures. Youth programs include free youth sports for ages 5 to 14 serving nearly 10,000 participants annually, summer and vacation day camps, 2,100 recreational and educational classes, sailing and aquatics instruction, teen center activities, skateboarding opportunities, and supervised afterschool and weekend activities at parks and schools. In addition, approximately 12,000 youth participate in non-Department sports leagues that utilize park facilities. This is an unclassified, non-career position. Unclassified positions with the City do not require applying through the Civil Service process. All communication will be handled through the department. Position Summary Under the general supervision of the AVP for Campus Community Affairs, the Campus and Community Affairs Assistant Coordinator will work closely with three initiatives to support the retention of underrepresented faculty, staff, and students at San Diego State University. Position Summary Under the general supervision of the AVP for Campus Community Affairs, the Campus and Community Affairs Assistant Coordinator will work closely with three initiatives to support the retention of underrepresented faculty, staff, and students at San Diego State University. Student Retention: Assists with recruitment and retention efforts and designing and developing creative, engaging and interactive programming that aligns SDSU’s strategic plan. Faculty Retention: Assists the Professors of Equity in Education to advance the university’s mission of being a global leader in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching and in community engagement. The Campus and Community Affairs Coordinator will support and work alongside the Professors of Equity in providing programming, workshops, professional learning seminars, and open discussions related to supporting the retention of underrepresented faculty. The Campus and Community Affairs Coordinator will provide assistance with day-to-day operations of the Professors of Equity and Employee Resource Groups to ensure effective and efficient processes including, but not limited to marketing, co-facilitation of workshops/seminars/learning communities, event coordination, scheduling, reservations, and financial documentation and guest speaker processes.
