Position: Juvenile Counselor
Location: Vernon Hills, Illinois, United States
Salary: $45,235 annually
Job Summary: Juvenile Counselors are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of all residents and staff in the Hulse Juvenile Detention Center. It is a direct care position which entails working with a group of residents daily. Juvenile Counselors monitor residents' behavior, counsel juveniles and offer support and guidance according to prescribed methods. The position requires shift work which consists of working weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Becoming a Juvenile Counselor would allow you to be involved with the rehabilitation of adolescents. Your day will consist of handling routine and crisis situations and observing and recording behavior patterns. You will have endless opportunities to impact and make a difference within Lake County.
In order to be successful in this role you should have a bachelor's degree and 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar position. Individuals should have a working knowledge of adolescent growth, development, behavioral psychology, and good knowledge of modern correction practices; possess the ability to effectively problem solve and have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere.
