    Job Summary

    The Paramedic in the Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. He/she applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Paramedic must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/she works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered.

    Minimum Education

    Proof of completion of Paramedic program of study.

    Required Skills

    Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

    Certifications:

    1. Must have current BLS/CPR certification.
    2. Must have ACLS certification
    3. Must obtain PALS certification within 1 year of hire
    4. Must obtain NRP (for Full time Status) within 1 year of hire
    5. Must obtain Handle With Care certification within 6 months of hire
    6. Pass medication competency exam prior to medication administration
    7. Proven competency for Intubation.

    Licenses:

    • Current and active Paramedic licensure for the State of Tennessee.
