    THE POSITION

    The County Caseworker 1 position with Northumberland County Children and Youth Services offers a chance to support children and families during important moments in their lives. This role allows you to make a meaningful impact while learning the foundations of child welfare work. You will join a team that values growth, teamwork, and commitment to community well-being.     DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    This position focuses on helping children, youth, and families access the support and services they need to improve safety and stability. As a County Caseworker 1, you will perform the following duties:

    • Case Support: Provide essential assistance to children, youth, and families through direct contact and supportive services
    • Family Engagement: Meet with children, parents, and foster parents to help resolve concerns that led to agency involvement
    • Home Visits: Conduct interviews and home visits to assess safety and understand the reasons for service referrals
    • Documentation: Prepare forms, write letters, and maintain accurate case records according to agency guidelines
    • Crisis Response: Respond to after hours emergency calls when scheduled to provide timely investigations
    • Community Collaboration: Work with hospitals, schools, law enforcement, and service providers to support family goals
    • Physical Work: Must have ability to sit for long periods, stand, walk, climb stairs, etc. in order to perform duties
    Work Schedule and Additional Information:
    • Full-time employment.
    • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM; Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
    • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
    • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

    Other Requirements:
    • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
    • This particular position also requires you to possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.

    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

    Legal Requirements:
    • You must pass a background investigation.
    • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
      • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
