Why work for Lake County?

Lake County Illinois Government is committed to being an employer of choice.

Lake County Government is committed to promoting and sustaining a safe, healthy, vibrant and environmentally responsible county, while maintaining its strong financial position. In partnership with citizens, communities and all levels of government, we pledge to deliver efficient and high quality public services consistent with the community’s values and priorities.

We envision Lake County as a leader in developing a thriving and robust local economy, healthy natural environment, safe and livable communities, healthy residents, and innovative public services that are responsive to the diverse needs of all residents.

Lake County Government carries out its mission and conducts its business activities adhering to a set of values. These values influence everything we do.

Our Values:

Fiscal Responsibility: The County Board has a balanced budget and Lake County maintains AAA bond rating, the highest possible rating.

Exceptional Service: In early 2014, government, business, and civic leaders came together to discuss issues and opportunities to collaborate at the first ever Leaders Summit. Some key themes emerged including sharing services, investing in transportation, and 911 consolidation. Subsequently, officials delved deeper into those discussions at four Leaders Regional Round tables in each quadrant of the county. Later in the year, fire, police, municipal and other leaders met to discuss opportunities to consolidate 911 dispatch centers which provides an opportunity to improve quality, efficiency, and provide cost savings.

Leadership: The Lake County Shared Services Initiative strives to collaborate and coordinate with other units of governments to generate greater economies of scale, foster partnerships and to reduce organizational costs.

Environmental Stewardship: To promote environmental stewardship, Lake County is advancing operational and community-wide sustainability initiatives, from land and water conservation efforts to the recently adopted Sustainability Chapter of the Lake County Regional Framework Plan.
